Hattie Miles-Polka

Photography, and in particular, portraiture has exerted a determined pull on me since I can remember, and like many I have documented my life through a variety of cameras. With portraits, I find it fascinating that the space between how we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us as an image can be captured by a camera. Photography is a medium that transcends language, yet within the curatorial space, language is necessary. I have used interpretation and translation in professional, academic, and volunteer settings, and enjoy facilitating communication and information. My work with KantArt allows me to turn my focus toward translation within a creative, visual space, creating more accessibility to the artists’ work.
